9th edition of Al Habtoor Tennis Cup to continue with matches at HUBB Tennis on Saturday

Al Ali brothers script contrasting wins

Youngster Mohammad Al Ali secured his positions with two contrasting results to advance to the next stages in the junior boy’s divisions at the 9th Al Habtoor Tennis Cup being held at the HUBB Tennis Club in Silicon Oasis, late on Friday.

Mohammad Al Ali wrapped up an easy 6-1, 6-1 win against Andre Lee in the boy’s under-12 after being given a walkover by Ishaan Pratap in the under-14 category of the competition earlier in the evening.

His brother Ali Al Ali was not as fortunate as he beat Yezid Baccouche 6-4, 6-4 in the boy’s under-12, but went down to a superior Cayane Joe Muhtar 6-1, 6-1 in the under-14 competition. Leem Ashaz Mohammad also progressed in the boy’s under-14 with a 6-2, 6-2 result against Ramsey Khalil, while Isabelle James advanced in the girls under-14 with an easy-looking 6-1, 6-0 win against Alena Semenova.

In another under-12 boys matches held late on Friday, Yahia Karkouri went past Adnan Mroueh 6-4, 6-0, while there were wins for Cyrine Maazoun and Emilia Balkanyi in the girls under-12 competition. Maazoun beat Eugenie Killeen 6-2, 6-4, while Balkanyi skipped past Yse Lefranc Morin 6-2, 6-0 in the early match.

In the boy’s under-18 contest, Jyle Daniel Landicho advanced at the cost of Nicola Eccher while leading 7-5, 1-2.

The competition is being held for junior boys and girls in four separate age categories (under-12, 14, 16 and 18) and three contests for seniors - namely Men’s Open, Women’s Open and Masters (34 years and above). Finals in all eleven categories to be held alongside 27th Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge on December 8.

There will be more matches played on Saturday evening in all eight junior categories for boys and girls at the HUBB Tennis Club.

The Road to Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open is the new community initiative developed by Mubadala in partnership with the UAE Tennis Federation, and under the umbrella of the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open.

The annual event is sponsored by Mai Dubai, Hilton, V Hotel, Habtoor Palace, Emirates International School and Diamond Lease.
