The latest addition to the Al Habtoor Tennis Series, the Al Habtoor Women’s 25K, was organised to create more competition for female tennis players, particularly around the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to a halt in the global tennis circuit with many tournaments postponed or cancelled. The all women’s tournament carries a prize money of $25,000 and provides players with more opportunity. Thanks to the early measures implemented by the UAE government, the country has managed to avoid multiple lockdowns like other nations.
Al Habtoor said, “Just because the pandemic hit, doesn’t mean competition should stop. We are fortunate to be in a country that has foresight and was quick to act. I wanted to capitalise on this and provide further opportunity to female players. We are geographically well placed to welcome players from all over the world who want to compete at a professional level but had little option elsewhere. It is an excellent addition to the UAE tennis circuit and I am proud to host it.”
