$100K event comes to Dubai in December

The Habtoor Grand Beach Resort in Dubai will play host to the final $100,000 tournament of 2016 with the action played out over 12-18 December.

Since the first ITF Pro Circuit women’s tournament to be hosted in the United Arab Emirates took place, back in April 1998, the majority have been held at the $75,000 prize money level and December’s tournament marks the first in the $100,000 category to be held in the United Arab Emirates and has attracted entries from six players from within the current WTA Top 100 led by world number 44 Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia.

Also amongst the entrants is the two-time doubles Grand Slam champion and former WTA world number 1 ranked doubles player Su-Wei Hsieh.

Three players in the main draw have previously tasted singles success in Dubai with title wins coming for Cagla Buyukakcay (November ’15), Jana Cepelova (November ’13) and Vitalia Diatchenko (December ’08).

No player has won more than one singles title at the $100,000 level during 2016 but Elitsa Kostova, Rebecca Sramkova and Natalia Vikhlyantseva are in the running for a second title to add to their respective triumphs in Budapest, Biarritz and Saint-Petersburg.
